Boss Buys Employee Winning Powerball Ticket. What’s Your Boss Ever Given You?

Boss Buys Thousands of Employees Powerball Tickets. What’s Your Boss Ever Given You?

It Could Happen To … Someone

As you’ve heard by now, no doubt, three lucky winners from across the country will split the Powerball super-bonanza. One of those now set-for-life types is, reportedly, a nurse from California with seven (7) children who was given the golden ticket by her boss.

John Nass, a personal spokesman for Shlomo Rechnitz, who owns a chain of 80 nursing facilities in California, told NBC4 that Rechnitz bought around 18,000 tickets for all of his employees.

Sure, a multimillion dollar jackpot is fine, but I too have gotten some pretty impressive stuff from my bosses over the years:

  • A $25 Starbucks gift card. I don’t drink coffee.
  • A ring made entirely out of tiny plastic beads that looked like something a twelve-year-old designed for herself at an accessories shop at the mall.
  • A paperback book my boss was pretty clearly re-gifting.

After making Ben work over a long weekend even though we’d had plans to go away, Ben’s boss once sent me a bouquet of flowers addressed to Esther [Ben’s Last Name]. So, wrong first name and wrong last name. I was kind of touched anyway. Other best boss gifts I’ve gotten:

  • A pair of too-nice-to-use Tiffany candlesticks in honor of my then upcoming nuptials.
  • A bottle of Kiehl’s lotion.
  • A gift certificate to a get a massage. (Thanks again, Mike.)

Of course, the worst thing I’ve ever gotten is fired. Zing.

ETA: Sadly, the California nurse was, and indeed all of us were, punk’d by her punk kid. She did not win the lottery and we do not need to feel bad that our bosses have never bought us winning tickets. On the other hand, it’s still nice to know there is a boss out there who bought thousands of these things to distribute to his employees.
