I Will Always 1 Thing You

Thursday is a great day to do that 1 thing you don’t want to do but also don’t want to continue thinking about doing.

My 1 Thing this week is to open the envelope from my new 401(k) company and figure out how to roll it over into my IRA…or something. When I left my last job I had about $3,500 in a 401(k) and have ignored it for the past year, figuring it could just sit there until I decided to deal with it.

Then last month I got my monthly statement and it was like,

MARCH BALANCE: $3,581.73
APRIL BALANCE: $0.00

After briefly considering that the Heartbleed security breech had stolen my modest retirement fund, I emailed the HR director from my last job to be like, “Um, do you have my money?” Turns out they had switched 401(k) administrators and didn’t know I still had money in mine so didn’t let me know. Whoops / phew.

Anyway please note that my 1 Thing is not to roll over the 401(k) so much as it is open a single envelope that I have had sitting in my purse for a week. Anyone feeling more ambitious than I am?
