Here Is What I Bought to Get Through Election Night

Earlier today Megan asked if we were going to treat ourselves to something nice today, and as usual I am ON IT and PLANNING AHEAD.

Buy Yourself Something Nice, It’s Going To Be A Long Day (draft)

When I went grocery shopping this weekend, I bought a $10.99 bottle of Election Night Wine. I also paid $4.50 for a fillet of Election Night Salmon (technically $8.99 for a two-pack, but I’m only going to eat one tonight) and $4.49 for a can of Election Night Hearts of Palm.

I had thought about ordering Election Night Pizza, but I figured that everyone else would be doing that and I didn’t want to add to the stress on the delivery drivers—plus when you live alone, ordering a pizza is committing to eating an entire pizza over the next three days—so I went the other direction and decided I would have salmon with hearts of palm and angel hair pasta ($1.00), the sort of thing that counts as a special self-care dinner because it’s all of the things I like eating but don’t regularly buy.

There are some elections that you spend with friends, hanging out at a bar or showing up at an apartment with an Obama-Biden Pie (I made the Obama logo out of strawberries, blueberries, and yogurt-covered raisins), and there are some elections that you spend quietly in your own home wrapped in a blanket. I feel like this one is the latter.

Total Election Preparation Spending: $12.19. (I’m only going to drink, at most, 1/5 of that wine bottle. I hope.)
