Buy Yourself Something Nice, It’s Going To Be A Long Day
Today’s a great day to buy yourself something good.

A potential end to the long, national nightmare that has been this election will wind its way to a close tonight when one of the two candidates for president will win. If it’s one person, we will be fine. If it’s the other, brace for impact. Regardless of the outcome, it’s going to be a long and frankly, terrible week. Wednesday looms faintly on the horizon, but before we get there, we still have to get through today.
Why don’t you buy yourself something nice?
Purchasing material goods as a way of making yourself feel better about the state of the country’s affairs isn’t something I’d suggest you make a regular occurrence, but today feels like it might be a pretty good day to do so. Get a robe on your way home from work. Buy new socks. Buy a candle, get some sage and smudge this year right out of your hair while you watch the returns wrapped in the soft embrace of a blanket, new socks and a giant glass of wine. Whatever is going to happen is going to happen. We can’t predict the future so we might as well sit and watch it unfold.
It doesn’t have to be expensive. It doesn’t have to be big. It doesn’t even have to be tangible. Take a cab when you could just take the train. Eat ice cream for dinner. Just maybe after you’ve voted or eaten lunch or gotten a flu shot, go and buy yourself something nice. Something small — an overpriced green juice, a Kit Kat, a sweatshirt, a book and some hand cream that you’ve had in your Amazon cart for a month that costs $10 — just buy it. Do it. It’s okay.
