Do 1 Thing: Win My Niece’s Affection Over My Brother

While also appeasing her parents

Where The Wild Things Are

It’s Thursday, which means it’s time to Do 1 Thing!

The 1 Thing I’m going to do is rewrite a page of this little storybook I made for my niece, Amira.

The story goes like this: Amira gets lonely one night; her parents (my sister and brother-in-law) ignore her because they think letting her cry it out is for the best; my brother comes to rescue her to take her on an adventure but neglects to return her; I swoop in, heroically, and return her to her grateful parents. Now admittedly, everyone in the story (myself especially) looks good — except for the parents. I get the feeling they’re not too excited about their depiction. And I also get the feeling they’re probably not reading it to her as often as they could be. And by that I mean I don’t think they’re reading it to her at all.

So that’s the 1 Thing I’m going to do, change it up a little, and ensure my niece always knows who is the Good Uncle and who is the Evil Uncle (and now, who are the attentive, loving parents).

What’s your 1 Thing?
