Singapore: Where Employees Are the Unhappiest

A recent report by a global HR services company called Randstad found that Singaporeans are the unhappiest employees in Asia despite having a low unemployment rate of 1.9 percent. The Wall Street Journal talked to local employers there and listed five things that could make workers happier, including making sure they don’t continue working when they walk out the door.
Number three on the list is: “Talk to them,” because only 39 percent of companies have events to “communicate strategic vision and listen to employee feedback.” And that’s exactly what I wished they had done here — rather than have some companies talk about what they could do to make their employees happier, it would have been great to talk to some employees to ask them what they think could be done. They have lots of thoughts about their work and life, I’ve learned.
