Jelly Beans For Men Who Like Complex Flavors

Thank you Businessweek for the hot tip that Jelly Belly is now making jelly beans for the patriarchy. The new flavors are BEER and chocolate-covered Tabasco. How masculine.

I had no idea that jelly beans were feminine in nature — in fact, if I had to assign a gender to jelly beans I would say male because jelly beans are what dads eat out of your Easter basket once you have discarded it, plus women get periods and periods make you want chocolate.

Jelly Belly’s target demographics, however, do not lie:

The company’s target consumers are generally college-educated women ages 25 to 54, with a household income of more than $75,000, who appreciate “sophisticated, complex flavors,” spokeswoman Tomi Holt says.

The new man flavors are meant to be given to men as gifts, perhaps by sophisticated ladies who know a complex flavor when they see one. Just in time for Valentine’s Day!
