“Job” of the Day: Beautytainer

Kayleen Schaefer details how much money she made—and lost—selling Tyra Beauty products.

#ANTM BOOTYFUL

Today in “things that aren’t exactly jobs,” check out Kayleen Schaefer’s story about becoming a Beautytainer:

I Made a Whopping $27.75 Selling Tyra Banks Beauty Products

If I sold $150 in products a month, I’d make 25% commission, which is only $37.50. But if I sold $500, I’d get an additional 5%, and if I hit $1,000, I’d get an additional 10%. I’d make even more if I enrolled another Beautytainer — 3% of that person’s sales. From there, the more you sell and recruit, the more Bank$igns you get until you reach Diamond Beautytainer, the highest level, which comes with so many perks that it feels like Tyra’s just blowing her ANTM fortune. I already felt rich.

Yes, that sounds an awful lot like multi-level marketing.

I’d say “spoiler alert,” but it’s in the title: Schaefer sells two Tyra Beauty products to her mother—who, in a Classic Mom move, gives them back to Schaefer at Christmas—and three items to her friends while hosting a TyOver party. (That’s “makeover” but with Tyra’s name in it, of course. The article is worth reading just for the Tyra Beauty nomenclature.)

Clever Billfolders will note that Schaefer doesn’t even make $27.75. She loses $203.55. But she gets to keep the Tyra Beauty products she doesn’t sell, which is almost like earning income!
