Stars: They Break Into Each Other’s Apartments to Highlight the Need for Better Home Security Just Like Us!

We’ve all got that friend, right? The one who refuses to buy a security system for his apartment? Maybe he thinks putting a fake sticker on the window will do the trick, or maybe he stuck some little plastic strips on his windows to prevent them from being opened more than a few inches.

A lot of us would just let that friend do his thing. But not Channing Tatum. He recently interviewed Joseph Gordon-Levitt for Gotham (yes, Tatum’s branching into journalism), and gave us this quote:

CT: My experience with you in New York has been uniquely interesting.
JGL: You mean the time you climbed up the space of my apartment, broke into my house, and surprised me when I was sleeping in order to prove that I should probably take better care to protect myself because if you were ill intentioned you could have murdered me? That time?

The entire Gotham interview is pretty interesting — Gordon-Levitt talks about starting a production company and trying to build a long-term career in film without getting typecast — but nobody is going to remember any of it because we’re all thinking about Channing Tatum climbing up the side of an apartment building, delicately opening Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s window, sliding his body through, and then tiptoing up to Gordon-Levitt’s bed.

So yes, there are some celebrities who are such good friends that they are willing to break into each other’s apartments in order to convince them to spend more money on home security. Who among us would do that for a friend?

It’s worth noting that Gordon-Levitt really should make sure his multiple residences are protected; I do not know if he still owns (or, I guess, rents) the apartment that Tatum broke into, but I do know that earlier this year he purchased his second Los Angeles home. As Variety reports:

Mister Gordon-Levitt, 34 years old and already a showbiz veteran of nearly 30 years, appears to have faced some hardcore competition for the dated but architecturally dignified residence in question that online resources show was officially listed in mid-January (2015) at $2.995 million and sold, per property records, three lickety-split weeks later for $3.25 million.

Our research shows Mister Gordon-Levitt still owns a similarly sized but stylistically very different multistory residence set behind gates and perched high above the street in the hills Silver Lake that he picked up in October 2008 for $1,137,500.

I’d like to see Channing Tatum break into those. I think we all would.
