Buy a Friend a Beer Through Facebook

Anheuser-Busch wants you to buy the next round on Facebook. The company is testing a campaign whereby people can send vouchers for free Bud Lights to people celebrating birthdays or dispatch Budweisers on any occasion it might be appropriate to send an inexpensive beer to an online acquaintance.

The program is currently available in Denver and Chicago. In those cities, recipients will receive coupons that can be redeemed at participating bars or restaurants. Any teenagers who hope this constitutes an opportunity for a free beer will have to set up fake Facebook accounts and then trick bartenders into thinking they’re 21.

Omg, via Businessweek. This would be better if it were actually nice beer. “Happy Birthday, to show how much I value you, here’s a cup of piss water!” NEVERTHELESS. If you don’t have to print out the coupon, I support it.

Also remember back in the old days when you could pay $1 and send Facebook friends little “gifts” that stayed on their profile? They were basically emoji. Just images. You got one for free and deciding what to send and who to send it to was HUGE. Wow what a ridiculous attempt at monetization.
