Gender Wage Gap Data Reveals We Have Not Yet Begun To Fight

The New York Times Economix blog breaks down some newly-released data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics about the evolving wage gap and there is some slightly encouraging news.

While men still out-earn women in full-time jobs, when it comes to part-time work, women earn on average 110% of their male counterparts’ median weekly earnings.

Also fascinating was that women in their teens and 20’s have earned about 90% of what men earn since 1979 (compared to the 75% that is typical for women 35 and older), but women age 25 to 34 are now joining those ranks and have “sharply narrowed the wage gap, perhaps related to the fact that women have delayed childbearing.”

Here’s hoping us 25 to 34s can bring that narrowing wage gap with us into our late 30s and 40s, babies or no babies, and finally destroy men once and for all. Wait, what?
