Work-Life Balance in Space

Gabrielle Blair interviews astronaut Karen Nyberg about living in the International Space Station and what it’s like to have a job where you’re in space and your husband and kid are on Earth. What strikes me most is that this is such an exciting time for her life and career — and one she was working towards well before she had a family. I love that her being away from home for six months isn’t a tragedy or something sad (though she does talk about missing her family, obviously), but how it’s framed as this super cool thing she gets to do. (“We talked a lot about what Mommy was doing and where Mommy was going. My goal was to try and never make it a negative thing that I would be gone, and to involve him as much as possible.”)
