My Last Hundred Bucks: Happy Birthday Little Sister
by Megan McGlynn
$10 for a birthday present for my newly 19-year-old sister: a sleeveless shirt with a lovely crocheted skull.
$5.60 in postage to send the aforementioned birthday present across the state.
$50 to fill my car’s tank with gas after a last minute decision to take a road trip and observe the birthday in person. She looked like a bad-ass in the skull shirt, which beat me across the state by a day.
$22.50 for bowling! We celebrated her birthday in wholesome Midwest fashion at a two-story bowling alley. This covered two games and shoe rental for three people.
$14 for delectable bowling refreshments + tip. The three of us split a pitcher of soda and a combo basket of fried mozzarella sticks, fried pickles, and fried cheese balls. Midwest fashion is perhaps not so wholesome.
