Stolen Cheese

Literally as I wrote this, I received a vague email with the subject “RE: Special sale — Mega aged WI Cheddar”. I’ll pass, thanks. Groceries, specialty shops, and bodegas that work with perishables need every edge they can get to scrape by. Think about that next time you order your egg and cheese from the corner store.
Aaron Cohen asked the head buyer at Murray’s Cheese Shop about the black market for stolen cheese and received the response above. The Center for Retail Research reports that cheese is the most commonly stolen food — more so than candy or liquor. Is the bodega down the block from my place selling bacon, eggs and stolen cheese on a roll? Guess that’ll remain a mystery.
