What You Get When You Come Home
Most of us are from somewhere else.
When I’m not in New York, my hometown is in the part of Southern California known as the O.C., and when I come home, there are a few things I must get because they’re not offered in New York. The first is a cheeseburger and fries from In-N-Out, which costs $3.50. That’s just so amazing to me because a good $5 lunch is desirable, but elusive in NYC, and although it’s not the healthiest option, $3.50 for something made with fresh ingredients is such a deal. Another thing I like to get is a $5 carne asada burrito from the local hole-in-the-wall Mexican joint down the street from my folks’ place, which beats an $11 Chipotle burrito in NYC by a long mile. Last night, I also got a pizookie from a local bar and grill chain named BJ’s. It’s a pizza cookie topped with ice cream, and I haven’t had it in seven years.
