Question Wednesday

It’s Wednesday, which means it’s time to ask those percolating financial questions.
Today’s question comes from the Billfold comment section: when do you consider it appropriate to spend your emergency fund?
I’ll go ahead and admit that although I consider my savings account my “emergency fund,” I have spent portions of the account balance on non-emergencies: moving, vacation, etc. However, I do my best to pay my savings account back as soon as possible. I view the savings account as both an emergency fund and a way to make short-term loans to myself.
What about you? Answer the question — or ask your own — in the comments.
