Monday Check-In

Happy Monday! Let’s check in with our weekend spending.

I spent $2.60 on a chocolate truffle because Friday was Art Walk (which is exactly what it sounds like) and the local chocolate shop had live music to go with the art, and I figured I should buy a chocolate if I wanted to listen to the music.

I spent $2,100 on quarterly estimated federal taxes.

I spent $0 on quarterly Washington state business taxes, because I forgot that they aren’t on the same schedule as the federal government. (I pay them next month.)

I paid the following bills:

  • Internet: $85.46
  • Phone: $96.93
  • Electric: $18.85
  • Business credit card: $25.00
  • Personal credit card: $694.81 (the actual bill was for $705.38, but I had $10.57 in cash rewards that I applied to my account)

I spent $5.75 on laundry.

I also spent $64.04 on groceries—I estimated I would spend $50ish, but when I went into Bartells to pick up some hair dye they were having a red dot sale and I stocked up on a bunch of stuff I needed.

Also, I know that I should start separating my groceries and my toiletries/household shopping, because I’m doing really well on cutting back on grocery spending—only $35.55 of that $64.04 was actual food, and it’s everything I need for the rest of the month minus a few fresh fruits/vegetables that I’ll buy when I get back from my NYC/DC trip—but, as I mentioned on the Oh My Dollar! podcast, I’m not tracking “toiletry planning” the way I’m tracking meal planning.

So that’s something else I’ll be thinking about next week, after I get back from that trip.

Estimated spending: $3,107.37.

Actual spending: $3,093.44.

How about you?
