This Week in Pods
Flying pods at 50 cents a mile!

I’d like to think this Massachusetts local newspaper headline was crafted specifically to be reblogged on The Billfold:
The cost of being a pod person in Bridgewater? About 50 cents a mile
PODS? PENNIES? Tell me more!
How much would it cost you to take a ride through town on Transit X CEO Michael Stanley’s proposed flying pod system?
About the same as it costs you now, he said: roughly 50 cents per mile on average on most area public transit.
“That’s the simple answer. I also have complex answers,” he said, before launching into the specifics of how fees could be based on median income and scaled down as more people ride.
IT GOT BETTER. I want to drop everything and move to Bridgewater, Massachusetts, future home of the sliding scale flying pods.
Unfortunately, the actual design Stanley describes is less “flying” than “funicular,” which is still cool, I’d still pay 50 cents a mile to ride that. I also like Stanley’s plan to keep costs affordable and to use his pod system as a way to create jobs, including manufacturing jobs, especially if he’s able to expand the pods into additional towns and cities.
I should also note another piece of breaking pod news:
SpaceX’s Hyperloop competition finally puts pods in the tube
THE PODS ARE IN THE TUBES.
I repeat: THE PODS ARE IN THE TUBES.
