A Lot Of People Spent Their First Adult Paychecks On Student Loans
Or rent.

Yesterday, we published a piece that asked a very simple question — how did you spend your first adult paycheck?
How Did You Spend Your First Adult Paycheck?
I find it impressive that anyone can remember what they spent their first paycheck on at all but I appreciate that it was a mostly even split between buying something for yourself and doing something for someone else.
As I read this piece, I tried to remember what I spent my first “adult” paycheck on, to see if it was anything exciting. Nicole said hers probably went to rent and food. I’m pretty sure that by the first time I had my first “real” job, I was so desperate for that money and so happy to get something other than minimum wage and tips from working at Peet’s Coffee, I threw the whole thing towards rent and maybe bought myself a shirt. That’s pretty much how things work now, a decade and change later.
The answers within the piece were varied and wonderful and the answers we found from readers responding on Twitter were even more so. Looks like an awful lot of us have student loans!
@GenePark @TheBillfold Gene, you are a good person. I blew mine of comic books and hot wings.
Sent it to my grandmother, as gratitude for the years she spent raising me and teaching me the value of work. https://t.co/oapbn1elok
