This Weekend In Pods
How much does it cost to sleep at the Pod Hotel?

As I have mentioned way too many times already, staying at the Pod Hotel in NYC cost me $313.60 per night, taxes and fees included.
My friends and I were trying to figure out why the hotel rate had gone from $112.51 per night to $313.60 per night in just one year, and then one friend said that it was probably because it was Fashion Week, and that if I booked the Pod Hotel at another time the rate might be closer to what I was used to paying. (I’ve booked one of the two Pod Hotels every time I’ve visited NYC in the past decade, first because they’re cheap—or they were cheap—and second because, as you can probably tell, I really like pods.)
So I decided to test this theory.
In January 2015, the base price for a Pod Hotel “single pod” room was $95/night. When I stayed in January, I got upgraded into a “full pod” room for free; I booked a “full pod” for this weekend’s stay at the base price of $270.24/night. (The full pods are slightly more roomy—and slightly more expensive—than the single pods.)
Here are both single and full pod prices at various randomly-chosen dates:
- Friday, September 23: $200 (single), $220 (full)
- Tuesday, October 18: $265 (single), $295 (full)
- Monday, November 7: $135 (single), $160 (full)
- Wednesday, November 30: $175 (single), $195 (full)
- Thursday, January 12: $95 (single), $100 (full)
I guess the real secret to saving money at the Pod Hotel is to book in January. Also: what’s going on in NYC in mid-October?
I’ll leave you with this Pod Hotel Vine I made last year:
