Checking In With My Savings Plan: July Edition

In July, I received $8,530.35 in freelance payments. Here’s what I put in my sub-savings accounts:

Taxes got 22 percent, or $1876.67.

Debt got 20 percent, or $1,706.07.

Savings got 10 percent, or $853.04.

That left $4,094.57 for my checking account.

In July, I had as much “left over in checking” as I had total earnings in June. I also spent a little more money in July than I did in June; I got a massage, I got my eyes checked, I had to pay for a locksmith… and I had $1,370.67 in business expenses.

I’m still starting August with a nice checking account buffer of $634.11, and I’ve got $4,519.21 in my savings account, so I feel pretty good about my finances.
