Harvard MBA Will Pay You $10K If You Find Him a Girlfriend

Reader Emily just sent over the following story tip:
A 29-year-old Harvard MBA named Ren You has created a website that’s essentially a dating profile with a contact form which you can use to send him potential matches. Writes the Boston Globe:
You, who lives in Birmingham, Ala., has launched a website — dateren.com — that says, “If you introduce me to a girl and I date her for more than 6 months, I’ll pay you $10,000. It’s pretty simple. I save a ton of time on finding romantic prospects and going on bad dates. You make a bunch of money for something you might have done for a friend, just for fun.”
The site allows you to submit a description of a potential girlfriend for You, as well as a picture. Some stats on You: his bio says he’s 29, 5 foot 9, and that he likes “Game of Thrones” and “Arrested Development.”
You says he works 12 hours per day and would rather not spend the remaining hours at a bar with his fingers crossed.
My first instinct is to roll my eyes, but then I remembered that a few years ago, I worked on a story about men and women who use matchmaking services and were willing to spend thousands of dollars to find a partner. One man I interviewed had spent $40,000 on these services. When I asked him whether it was worth it, he replied, “I don’t know, Mike, how much is it worth it to find the love of your life? Forty grand seems reasonable.” I remember thinking, well that sounds nice in theory, but you’ve got $40,000 to spare, and I have that much in student loan debt.
In any case, You’s already presented one reason that it might be tough to date him for longer than six months: He works 12-hour days in finance, and if you’ve read Young Money, or anything about the culture of working in finance, you’ve read that it can be really tough on relationships.
