Updates From a Plane

I wanted to give you all a few updates, in the name of transparency (and also holding myself accountable):

First, after reading all of your advice (both for and against) renters insurance, I ended up purchasing the Geico plan. I mean, it took me until last Saturday to finally push go on that, but I did it. I also paid extra for water damage coverage and identity theft coverage, because if there’s one thing that’s going to go wrong in my apartment it’s probably the pipes (see “I wash my dishes in a bucket and rinse them in the bathroom sink”), and because identity theft coverage sounded like a good idea. I did not elect to pay extra for earthquake insurance. I’ll take my chances on that one.

That brought my monthly premium up to $14.75 a month, more than double the initial quote of $6.59 a month, but I’ve come to expect that kind of thing from insurance, and I can handle $14.75. So yes, all you amazing Billfold commenters: I took your advice. (Unless you advised me not to buy renters insurance. I did not take that advice.)

Second, I told Ester during last Friday’s chat that I owned four owl necklaces (red, orange, green, and silver). That is incorrect. I actually own five owl necklaces. I forgot about the purple one.

Lastly, as you might have guessed from the title of this post, yesterday’s prediction that United would cancel my flight to NYC and that I would lose money on my hotel reservation did not come to pass.

Dear readers, I am on a plane right now.

Headed for The Billfold LIVE.

I hope to see many of you in person tomorrow.
