It’s Entrepreneur Barbie

Entrepreneur Barbie went on sale yesterday.
Barbie celebrated her launch by hosting a Pink Power Lunch on Twitter (hashtags #barbiechat and #unapologetic — seriously, #unapologetic) with her CIOs, aka “Chief Inspiration Officers.” You can read the chat on Barbie’s Twitter feed, which is of course @Barbie.
To be fair, I think Barbie’s already been an entrepreneur a few times. In the 2000s alone, Barbie was a pet sitter, a ballet teacher, and a baby photographer — all jobs where Barbie probably started up her own business and paid estimated taxes.
(It’s well worth it to take some time to explore the Barbie Media site, which separates out Barbie’s various careers by decade. In the 2000s, Barbie was also a “baby doctor” (twice!) as well as a “newborn baby doctor.” And, of course, an “American Idol Winner.”)
Anyway, the point is that Barbie has already started her own business ten times over, and most of those businesses probably earned just enough to keep Barbie in a studio apartment and thrift-store clothes.
But hey, now she’s Entrepreneur Barbie, where she gets to wear a fantastic dress and do some vague job that is no doubt funded by VC money and involves apps, content, or the “sharing economy.”
It’ll be disruptive, gamified, social, and the next Uber. You’ll see.
