Let’s All Move to Vienna

Mercer’s annual survey of the top cities according to quality of living is out and the top five cities are as follows:

1. Vienna, Austria
2. Zurich, Switzerland
3. Auckland, New Zealand
4. Munich, Germany
5. Vancouver, Canada

The rankings are based on an index of 39 factors in 10 categories including: political and social environment, economic environment, socio-cultural environment, medical and health considerations, schools and education, public services and transportation, recreation, consumer goods, housing and natural environment.

“European cities enjoy a high overall quality of living compared to those in other regions,” a senior researcher at Mercer wrote.

In North America, the rankings are as follows:

1. Vancouver, Canada
2. Ottawa, Canada
3. Toronto, Canada
4. Montreal, Canada
5. San Francisco, Calif., U.S.

Canadians, how is your quality of life? Pretty good?

The worst cities for quality of life in North America were: Mexico City, Detroit, St. Louis, Houston, and Miami, respectively.
