Prison Phone Call Costs Are Stupid

A years-long struggle to lower prison phone call rates has concluded with a capping of rates. FCC chairwoman Mignon Clyburn explains why the rates were so ridiculous and how they were able to make them less ridiculous but really all I could think when reading was, this continues to be ridiculous. I mean, THIS IS AMERICA: “The rate caps are set at $0.25 per minute for collect calls and $0.21 per minute for debit calls. So what is now a conversation that could cost upwards of $17 for a 15-minute call between states will be capped off at $3.75.” I think I can call anyone in any country on any phone for less than that. Sup, Ed Snowden. How you doing, Kate Middleton.
