Pilfering From the Hotel Room

“35% of global travelers say they make off with even more valuable hotel amenities, such as towels, lamps, robes and bedding, according to a recent survey by the hotel booking site Hotels.com.”
Confession time: Have you stolen from the hotels you’ve stayed in, and if so, what did you take? I will fully admit to taking the little tiny bottles of lotions and soaps, but never anything like a lamp (what!) or hotel bedding (gross). Maybe the reason why hotels don’t give us toothpaste is because we’re stealing everything and they can’t afford to give us any (no, but seriously, some toothpaste would be great). But here’s a belief I have that the L.A. Times story doesn’t really address: I always assumed that if you did steal, the hotel would just charge it to whatever credit card you had on file while you were there. Is that not the case?
