Monday Check-In

Happy Monday! I hope you all had a great weekend. Let’s check in with our spending!
On Friday I did in fact go to my local independent bookstore to buy Jane Smiley’s Last Hundred Years trilogy in paperback. It cost $52.56—twice as much as I would have paid on Amazon, but I know I made the right choice here.
I Canceled My Amazon Order so I Could Buy the Books at My Local Independent Bookstore
I spent most of Saturday spring-cleaning my apartment, which included scrubbing walls/windowsills/baseboards and throwing out several bags of garbage. (On Sunday, I also took several bags to the Goodwill.)
I found two important items during Spring Cleaning:
- A package of inkpens that I had forgotten I bought. (Inkpens were one of the items on my Everything I Want list.)
- An Old Navy gift card that I had forgotten I received as a Christmas gift. (Christmas was kind of a blur, what with the norovirus and all.)
So I used the Old Navy card to buy five white tank tops, also from my Everything I Want list, at a cost of $0.07 to myself.
Then I decided I was finally sick of my old towels and used a JCPenney coupon to buy four quick-dry towels, four quick-dry hand towels, and one quick-dry bathmat for $68.07. (JCPenney claims I saved $96.84 in the process.)

The rest of my weekend stuck pretty close to my Friday Estimate; I estimated that I would spend $50 on groceries and I spent $58.30, and I estimated that I would spend $7 on laundry and I spent $5.75. (I discovered a “dryer hack” that I will tell you about later today. It’s going to save me so much money.)
I thought about going downtown to a reading on Sunday, but I didn’t, so I didn’t spend $28 on Lyft. I’d already spent plenty this weekend, including supporting bookstores, so that was fine by me.
Total spending: $184.75.
How about you?
