It’s National Pizza Day, Maybe Order a Pizza?

I’d say “there are coupons,” but aren’t pizza chains always offering coupons?

So I didn’t realize when I wrote about the Domino’s Pizza wedding registry that today, February 9, was actually National Pizza Day.

Domino’s Pizza Has a Wedding Registry Option

If you are suddenly inspired to order a pizza tonight, Consumerist has a list of coupons and deals, including one that involves my favorite shopping robot, Alexa:

Here Are Your Discounts, Freebies, And Bagels To Celebrate National Pizza Day

Pizza Hut/Amazon: Have your Alexa-powered device (that could be a speaker, tablet, or Fire TV) learn the Pizza Hut ordering skill, then place an order from today through Feb. 16. You’ll get 30% off the entire order.

“Learn the Pizza Hut ordering skill” sounds like something out of a video game, the way I’m having my Stardew Valley avatar max out her farming skills so she can build iridium sprinklers—and I’m sure that is deliberate. Life has been gamified, our actions have turned into achievements (and consumable data), and Alexa is ready to learn “Pizza Hut ordering” so you can unlock “pizza.”

The Economics of Stardew Valley

Are you going to order a pizza today? (If I didn’t already have leftover tofu stir-fry in the refrigerator, I absolutely would.) If anyone teaches their Alexa a new skill specifically to get a Pizza Hut coupon, let me know.
