How Gilmore Girls Do Money: Logan Huntzberger

“Damn!” Logan shouted, the word popping out of his mouth without forethought, split into two syllables in what he knew was a slightly appropriative cadence, something he’d never say in front of a client.
“What is it?” The woman who was currently labeled in Logan’s phone as “Nikki Tinderella” sat up, keeping the blanket folded over her body like she was on television or something.
Logan texted Nikki Tinderella the article he was reading, but she was too focused on their non-conversation to grab her phone when it buzzed, which made him slightly uncomfortable. “I just sent it to you,” he said. “Zuckerberg put his baby money in an LLC.”
“I thought he was donating it to charity,” she said, and Logan launched into a detailed explanation of what Mark Zuckerberg had done with his $45 billion, and why it was all designed to benefit him in the end.
“God, I wish I’d had that idea,” he said.
“You’d need $45 billion first,” Nikki said. “And a baby.”
Logan kept his eyes on his phone to keep that hypothetical train of thought from hitting any more stations. A Tinder notification appeared, indicating a new match, and he tapped it before realizing what he was doing. He smacked the phone with his thumb to get back to the home screen, then glanced over to see if Nikki had noticed — but she was pulling a black satin eye mask out of her purse and carefully arranging it around her long, dark hair.
“It’s getting late,” she said. “I’ve got work tomorrow.”
Logan never had work tomorrow. He had occasional jobs sent in his direction by one of his father’s friends, and he had his investments. He had spent a few years having work tomorrow, and work after dinner, and work every day, and then he sold his company. Now he had perfect freedom — and he had earned every bit of it.
“Goodnight, my darling,” he said, putting on that slight affectation that women seemed to appreciate, but already feeling irritated that Nikki wanted to go to sleep, that he was going to have to spend the next few hours sitting quietly in his own apartment until he got tired. They weren’t in the same place, he and Nikki. They’d had a good five dates, but he really wanted someone smarter, more independent, more like a peer. Another Ace, the way Rory had been.
If he made enough noise, would she get frustrated and return to her apartment? No. He wouldn’t do that. The Huntzbergers were gentlemen. But Logan did open his phone and tap that Tinder notification, ready to see what else the world had to offer.
