You Can Rent a Lot of Things, Including These Chickens

One solution to the problem of urban owners who raise backyard chickens and then abandon them after they stop laying eggs: Rent-A-Chicken.
“You saw people on Craigslist who had these chickens they were trying to get rid of,” says Leslie Suitor, co-owner of Rent-A-Chicken, a business based in Traverse City, Mich., that has no connection to Rent the Chicken in Pennsylvania. “They didn’t know what they were doing.”
The cost of renting some chickens: $350 for two egg-laying hens, a coop, and a supply of food and water for seven months (or about $50 a month). It won’t save you any money, but you get to have the experience of having chickens without worrying about having to have them butchered later, plus: chicken stories.
