Our Work Setups

I have simple needs. I spend most of my day on a Dell laptop provided by my college and Galaxy S III smart phone. The smart phone is essential for time management and for my media work. Being able to clear out emails or do other chores while waiting in line at the grocery store is a great help and responding quickly to journalists or producers is essential if I want my voice heard. Together my phone and laptop are my computer, browser, phone, TV, music player, camera, game player, video chatter, and audio recorder.
I have a long abandoned, dusty iPad somewhere in my bedside table; I never really got the appeal. I don’t have a Kindle or Nook. I use libraries.
Some of my work is done while on a Lifespan treadmill desk.
The Setup interviews a wide variety of people with different jobs and asks them what kind of hardware and software they use for work. The above response is from Lisa Wade, a sociologist and professor at Occidental College. Not surprisingly, a lot of Apple computing devices are mentioned.
I’m no better; the hardware I use for my work setup consists of: A 13-inch Macbook Pro (2012 edition) for blogging needs, an iPhone 4S for business calls, a Sony Digital Flash Voice Recorder for conducting interviews in-person, Apple in-ear headphones to listen to said interviews, and this giant SHARP desk calculator that I use to do math (like adding up totals for check-ins!). I also have a Timex military watch that I consider part of me when I go to work, a Moleskine reporter’s notebook, and a copy of the AP Style Guide, so there’s that. What’s your setup?
