My Italian Bread Secret

by Miranda Popkey

Move to Italy. Bread is so cheap there.

I’m not endorsing this from a health perspective, but seriously: walk into a bakery. Spend approximately $2 on a piece of schiacciata (literally: “squished”; in this case, a delicious piece of better-than-the-best-focaccia-you’ve-ever-had oily rectangular bread goodness) either “vuota” (empty) or “ripiena” (filled, with meats and cheeses say; the “cotto e fontina” is always a good choice, as is anything involving prosciutto crudo) and walk out with an eat-as-you go meal that will keep you satisfied as you wander the cobblestone streets for hours, haggling with street vendors.

Miranda Popkey is Italian, so this is legit.
