Mall of America Will Close on Thanksgiving
Individual stores “may choose to be open.”

Today in “things that seem heartwarming until you start thinking about them more carefully and realize that our culture is now at the place in which what was formerly a common courtesy is now seen as an extraordinary gift:” the Mall of America will be closing on Thanksgiving.
Mall of America to Close for Thanksgiving
Mall of America, the nation’s largest shopping mall anchored by Macy’s, H&M and others, has taken a stand against the growing trend of Thanksgiving shopping and will be closed on the turkey feast this year.
The center, based in Bloomington, Minnesota, has been open on Thanksgiving since 2012. But mall officials told The Associated Press it wants to offer workers time with their families.
The mall will re-open at 5 a.m. on the Friday after Thanksgiving.
Although the mall itself will be “closed,” that only means that the attractions the mall owns, such as its movie theater and indoor amusement park, will be closed. Individual stores, which operate in the mall as tenants, “may choose to be open on Thanksgiving.”
So… yeah. Heartwarmingish. Not terrible. Some people will very likely get to spend Thanksgiving dinner with their families instead of working, and that will make the rest of us feel a little better about the world.
