D1T: Plan Thanksgiving Travel Now, Delight Your Future Self

Thursday is a great day to do that 1 thing you don’t want to do but also don’t want to continue thinking about doing.

Good morning! For a change, how about we all do the same one thing and figure out about Thanksgiving? I have devoted exactly zero neurons to that annual problem so far this year, but since tickets are still relatively affordable now is an excellent time to at least think and maybe also act. You’ll have so many choices! You could travel on the Wednesday before and the Sunday after! You could even do the unthinkable and reserve seats on Amtrak along the Northeast Corridor, because those trains are not all sold out yet.

Consider how impressed your relatives will be that you are so organized and efficient. Consider too how grateful your future self will be that you sorted everything out in early September and didn’t wait until prices rose higher than turkeys ever could.

Since I’m scheduled to see my entire family twice this fall, and we spent the holidays with my local in-laws last year, we are more free than we have ever been to make alternate arrangements. Perhaps this year will be the year in which, at last, we stay in town and do Friendsgiving? One can dream.
