The Want Me Back
The above is from an email I received from apparel company Bonobos. I shopped around for a tuxedo shirt and ended up buying one from their site a year ago and never visited again. They, of course, kept my data on file and knew to send me this discount offer to try to woo me back after a year.
This is an email offer I received from Hale & Hearty Soups, a counter-serve chain that I stopped visiting as often because it’s summer and I’m less in the mood for soup. They sent me $2 to woo me back.
These offers work. According to a survey by Blue Kangaroo, a personal shopping site, more than half of respondents said they either used a coupon or discount from a marketing email in the last month. It’s hard to turn away from the siren call of a discount.
Of the two offers, I used the one for soup. I only shop for clothes when I need something — not just because stuff’s on sale. So that coupon code is up for grabs if anyone wants it.
