Atherton, CA, Now Country’s Priciest Zip Code

Just Another House in Atherton, CA
Watch out, Beverly Hills. Sit down, Greenwich. The Bay Area’s own Atherton, CA, is now the priciest zip code in the country, attracting CEOs and Chinese oligarchs alike:
Along gorgeous forested and hilly topography, large private lots and famous neighbors, Atherton offers those three things always hot in real estate: location, location, location. “The town is 45 minutes south of San Francisco, and less than 20 minutes to the headquarters of Facebook, Google and most of the major tech companies in Silicon Valley,” points out CNBC. And who does this appeal to more than people like Google’s Eric Schmidt, HP’s Meg Whitman, and Facebook’s Sheryl Sandberg, all of whom own mansions in this zip code?
These high end buyers can not only afford Atherton’s prices, they’re driving them yet higher. Just in the first quarter of this year, seven mansions in Atherton sold for more than $10M, pushing this area far over nearby Woodside and Los Altos Hills in terms of both price and demand.
Wanna lean in to Sheryl Sandberg’s school district? It’ll cost you. The cheapest house currently for sale is a hair under $1.7 million. And that same house? “Incidentally, it sold in 1998 for $480K.”
