Andrew Mason’s “Hardly Workin’”

This album pulls some of the most important learnings from my years at the helm of one of the fastest growing businesses in history, and packages them as music. Executives, mid-level management, and front-line employees are all sure to find valuable takeaways. I’ve probably listened to the album over a dozen times now, and with each spin I feel like I learn something.
Andrew Mason was fired from his job as CEO of Groupon and has gone on to do other things including recording and releasing an album for people who work in offices with song titles like, “My Door is Always Open.” Sample lyrics from the song: “Where do you think good ideas be coming from? / From people like me who bring them to your door (is always open) / Why would we keep our thoughts bottled inside of our heads?”
It’s … interesting, for sure. I mean, it probably won’t resonate with workers the way Jonathan Coulton’s “Code Monkey” did.
