Happy Birthday Baby, 1 U.S. Citizenship for You

Do you know about “birth tourism,” the practice of foreign nationals traveling to the U.S. or a U.S. territory to give birth to babies who then are granted U.S. citizenship??? This pisses some people off A LOT! But other people are like, well, if those mamas can make it to the U.S. to have their babies, then that is legal and okay, welcome babies.

Lots has been written — not much of it nice! — about Mexican women illegally crossing the border to have “anchor babies” in California (cost: “free.”) Then: Earlier this year the focus was on Chinese women who were coming to California and spending thousands of dollars to stay in houses in the suburbs to give birth. Now the spotlight is on Chinese women who are paying lots of money to travel to the Mariana Islands, a U.S. territory in the Pacific, to have their babies.

But where can Americans have their babies to give them foreign citizenship??? Looks like: Canada. That’s it. :/
