Politicians Pay Their Taxes

The lieutenant governor, Robert J. Duffy, and his wife, Barbara, reported an adjusted gross income of close to $238,000 on their federal return.

One source of their earnings was unexpected: They revealed $2,628 in gambling income last year, which an aide said came from a successful visit by Mr. Duffy to the Saratoga Race Course.

Oh, how lovely it is to read about what our government officials are paying in taxes. Governor Cuomo’s tax rate was just under 18 percent, President Obama is paying a tax rate of 20.5 percent, and Mitt Romney estimates that he’ll pay a tax rate of about 15.4 percent. And I once won $10 betting on a horse named Danger at Belmont, so I can’t admonish the lieutenant governor for his gambling income.
