What Are You Getting Your Office Secret Santa This Year?
Michelle Markowitz of Fast Company (and of Hey Ladies at The Toast) sent us Fast Company’s newest comedy sketch featuring the terrible gifts we are likely to receive from our Office Secret Santas this year. (It is very, very familiar.)
My most hilarious Office Christmas Gift moment was when I opened what I thought was a box of attractively carved tiny soaps, gushed to the gift-giver about how much I love cute soap (is there any context in which the words “I love cute soap!” is not totally awkward) and then took them home to discover… they were tealights.
I am drawing a blank on what I used to give my coworkers, except for the one year when I gave my boss a loaf of homemade bread. I got a silver photo frame from an office White Elephant exchange once, which I still use.
Then, of course, there was my first year in the adult workforce, in which I wore the same five outfits to my temp receptionist job every week because that was all I could afford. My temp boss came up to me after the holidays and gave me a sweater that she said did not fit her, and I was too embarrassed to ever wear it to work.
What about you? What are some of the best and worst office holiday gifts you’ve received?
And what are you getting your Office Secret Santa this year? Don’t worry, we won’t tell.
This story is part of our Holidays 2015 series.
