Get Out of Your Lane
Michelle Alexander — author of The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness wrote a very powerful essay in The Nation this week about “connecting the dots,” and how she’s been so wholly focused on the issue of incarceration that she hasn’t spoken out against other related injustices. As inspiration she looks to Dr. King, who “said that nothing less than ‘a radical restructuring of society’ could possibly ensure justice and dignity for all.”
Michelle Alexander is a really cool lady — we should all read her book, obviously, but a shorter version of her work can be found in this really excellent interview in The Sun Magazine.
