Two students from Harper High — the inner-city Chicago school that This American Life profiled over two totally gut-wrenching episodes — have won Gates Millenium Scholarships from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, which will pay to send them to undergrad and grad school, if they choose.

54,000 kids apply. 1,000 are chosen. Deonte Tanner and Brittney Knight are two of them. A+ job good work. Glad this exists. Wish it could exist for everyone. (It kind of does, in Europe.)
