“I hate when my boss tells me she won’t give me a raise because she can smell me.” — That’s Tyree Johnson, a human person who works at two different McDonald’s food stores to make his $320 rent each month in a men’s hotel, explaining to Bloomberg that he has been denied raises because he smells like food (his job is to cook food).

Johnson has worked at McDonald’s for 20 years, is not given full-time hours, and makes $8.25 an hour. He says that when the franchise changes ownership or when you transfer to a different store, your pay gets reset to the lowest level. He goes to union meetings, but dare not talk about it at work. A McDonald’s spokesperson said, “McDonald’s has no involvement in its franchisees’ salary policies.” So that’s okay then.
