I Do Cherish You 1 Thing
Thursday is a great day to do that 1 thing you don’t want to do but also don’t want to continue thinking about doing.
My 1 thing is to find out exactly how much money I owe to myself. Two months ago, I reinstated overdraft protection so that my bills will get paid even if I don’t have money in my account to pay them.
Historically, I used this trick to spend money I didn’t have. It automatically cancelled last year when I lost my card, and I put off reinstating it. On one hand, emergencies happen! On the other hand, I have a really loose definition of emergencies.
But I did decide to reinstate it because running out of money is stressful, but having payments to landlords, debtors, health insurance companies bounce is way, way more stressful. What’s a little bit tricky about this is that I’ve made SOLEMN VOW TO MYSELF to not use credit cards anymore, and this goes against that rule.
But I made ANOTHER SOLEMN VOW TO MYSELF in reinstating the overdraft protection that I would “pay back” any money used to cover bills as soon as I got another check. So my 1 thing today is to figure out exactly what I’m transferring back to the card when I get it, and then plan for the rest of the year. Is your 1 thing also to figure out how much money you owe yourself?!
