Two Cops (1981)
The Believer has unearthed a little-seen 1981 documentary called “Two Cops” that was made by filmmaker Nina Sinclair and produced by Sunset Television. It takes place during the recession in the early ’80s at a time when police officers were moving in together because of the poor economy.
I’ve watched the first two episodes, and the setup seems so unreal that it feels scripted and almost fake. It’s very much an Odd Couple situation: A “loose cannon struggling with an addiction to PCP” moves into an apartment with a by-the-books lieutenant who lost his wife to cancer. But it’s supposedly “real,” and has some really sad undertones to it. I’ll be watching the entire series.
